Another Civil Rights Movement Race Riot broke out July 23, 1967 in the heart of urban Detroit. The name of this riot was the 12th street riot, the part of Detroit most heavily populated by African Americans. In total the Detroit riot lasted 5 days. This riot happened when a gathering for War Veterans at an illegal drinking club was raided by policemen. People attending this party were arrested including 82 African Americans. This upset the residents of the area, who protested the police then began to act violently; robbing stores, setting fire to buildings, and vandalizing property. 43 fatalities occurred from this riot.
